应木竹资源高效利用湖南省高校2011协同创新中心、木材科学与技术国家重点学科、林业工程湖南省重点学科和材料科学与工程学院的邀请，世界知名大学——加拿大多伦多大学Ramin R. Farnood教授7月4日来我校访问交流，并开展了题为“Energy from Biosolids and Biomass Residual: Conversion of Biomass to Bioenergy”学术报告。我校材料科学与工程学院、生命科学与技术学院、环境科学与工程学院等相关专业的教师和研究生共50余人参加了本次学术报告会。

学术报告会之前，Farnood教授被聘为我校客座教授。吴义强副校长，人事处李红军副处长，材料科学与工程学院张仕吉书记、袁光明副院长、吴志平副院长、湖南省芙蓉学者Ning Yan教授参加了聘任仪式。副校长吴义强教授致辞热情欢迎Farnood教授来我校访问并兼任客座教授、颁发聘书；并就我校历史沿革、办学特色、优势领域进行简单介绍，并期望借助国家人才政策招贤纳士，加速我校一流学校、一流学科建设。

会上，Farnood教授首先对加拿大多伦多大学历史人文、招生政策、科研成果进行简要介绍。结合其正在从事的生物质资源利用与能源转化研究领域，他边介绍自己带领团队在生物能源气化、催化剂合成与优化、废弃物回收等方面的研究成果，同时也就北美地区在生物质资源材料化与能源化利用方面的研究进展开展深入讨论。参加学术会的教师与研究生结合自己所研究的领域，踊跃提问、积极交流，学术思路在讨论中碰撞激活，学术报告会取得圆满成功。

附：Farnood教授简介

Professor Farnood is Associate Chair at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry and Associate Director of Pulp & Paper Centre at the University of Toronto as well as a registered Professional Engineer.

Professor Farnood is serving on the editorial Board of Journal of Applied Catalysis B, and is associate editor of JFor. He is technical program co-chairman for 2018 Interamerican Congress of Chemical Engineering and 68th Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference.

Professor Farnood’s research includes water and wastewater treatment, and biomass conversion to energy and value added materials. He has more than 200 publications including 86 peer reviewed paper in leading journals such as Green Chemistry, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Water Research, Applied Catalysis, Advanced Materials, Carbohydrate Polymers, Colloids and Surfaces, Fuel, I&EC, Journal of Physical Chemistry, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Progress in Organic Coatings, Chemical Engineering Science, and Cellulose, to name a few. He has trained more than 200 students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers, including 43 doctoral stream students and hosted 10 international visiting scientists and professors.

In addition to serving as reviewer for Natural Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), he has been invited as a reviewer for several international granting agencies including, Hong Kong Branch of Chinese National Engineering research Centres (CNERCs), Singapore National Research Foundation, Hong Kong Research Grant Council, Skolkovo Foundation, and King Fahad University, Monash University (Australia), and Technical University of Graz (Austria).

He has been also a reviewer for more than 40 high impact journals including Journal of American Chemical Society, Environmental Science and Technology, ACS Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering, Applied Catalysis, I&EC Research, Cellulose, Water Science, and Journal of Hazardous Materials just to name a few.

Professor Farnood is a member of American Chemical Society, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Water Environment Federation, Technical Association of Pulp and Paper, Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada, Canadian Society of Chemical Engineers, and Professional Engineers of Ontario.
